Show Synopsis
Humorist Jean Shepherd’s memoir follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker growing up in the Midwest in the 1940s.
Ralphie is determined to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree for Christmas. He pleads his case before his mother, his teacher, and even Santa Claus at Higbee’s Department Store, but the response is always the same: “You’ll shoot your eye out!”
All the elements from the beloved motion picture are here: the family’s temperamental exploding furnace; school bully Scut Farkas; the boys’ experiment with a wet tongue on a cold lamppost; the Little Orphan Annie decoder pin; the leg lamp; Ralphie’s fantasy scenarios; and more.

Good to Know
- All auditions are open — no experience with FCT is required, and newcomers are always welcome.
- Auditions are held at the Vint Hill Theater on the Green, 4225 Aiken Drive, Warrenton, VA, unless otherwise noted on the audition form.
- Adult cast members (18 and over) are required to hold a current FCT membership; youth cast memberships are $20. See membership details.
- Not ready for the stage? There are plenty of backstage and front-of-house roles too.
