Our Standard: Respect in Every Interaction

Our mission to enrich, entertain, and educate through live theatre depends on a community where people of all backgrounds can contribute, learn, and create together. Upholding these standards is part of fulfilling that mission.

Every participant is required to uphold an inclusive, uplifting, collaborative, and welcoming environment at all times. This is a non-negotiable standard of participation at Fauquier Community Theatre, regardless of role, experience, or position.

We expect every person to treat others with dignity, welcome different perspectives, offer constructive feedback, and work together with care and respect. This responsibility extends to auditions, rehearsals, performances, meetings, and all FCT-related communications, in person and online. Disagreement must remain respectful. Bullying, discrimination, intimidation, harassment, and conduct that demeans or excludes others have no place at FCT.

A welcoming environment includes the freedom to ask questions, express respectful disagreement, set personal boundaries, and raise concerns in good faith. No participant is expected to remain silent about unsafe or inappropriate conduct to preserve harmony or keep a production moving.

FCT has a zero tolerance policy toward sexual harassment and abuse and may conduct background checks.

The Not in Our House DC initiative helped inform FCT’s commitment to safety, respect, and accountability in theatre. FCT’s own standards on this page establish the expectations for participation in our community.

Help Keep Our Theatre Community Healthy

All participants and visitors—including volunteers, cast, crew, production teams, and audience members—are expected to help maintain a healthy environment.

If you are feeling ill or may be contagious, please stay home. Participants should notify their production leader as soon as possible if illness affects their attendance. Ticket holders should contact the Box Office for assistance.

Follow any health precautions announced for your production, activity, or performance, and respect others’ choices to wear a mask.

Other Policies at Fauquier Community Theatre

• No smoking, vaping, drug use, or alcoholic beverages in the theatre, dressing rooms, or rehearsal locations.
• No smoking or eating while in costume, indoors or outdoors.
• No food is permitted in the dressing room.
• All trash must be removed from the dressing room at the end of each day or night of use.
• Compliance with county Parks and Recreation policies is required.
• All rehearsals of scenes involving prop guns must take place within the theatre. Prop guns must remain inside the theatre at all times and must be returned to the props master for safekeeping after each production.
• All participants must ensure safe production practices.
• Participation is strictly voluntary; participants agree to indemnify the theatre organization, and liability waivers are required.
